The Most Beautiful Flower (Love)

She appeared as I was combing my hair from a shower. In her hand, I could see a paper flower, something I knew she had been making with my Mom who is visiting. Clearly, she was proud of it and wanted to show me, but I said nothing, just let her smile for a bit…

Me – “What a beautiful flower!” I finally said.

She smiled and started to raise the paper flower

Me – “No, I was talking about you.”

She looked at me, processing it…

Me – “You’re the most beautiful flower in the whole world!”

She melted into a silent, sort of sheepish smile. I was planning on praising her paper creation, too, but I wondered if, caught up and basking, she would choose not to show it. Sure enough, she skipped off.
