Making Up Songs (Morning rituals, Power thinking)

All of her life, I’ve had songs for her that I’ve made up. One of them ‘You are Love. You are Light’ I still sing to this day, maybe once a week. When she was younger it was a nightly song, along with another that I made up to William Tell’s Overture.

This morning, while helping her wake up for circus camp I started singing spontaneously…

“Welcome to another day of your life
where you are loved
and there are fun things to do.

Fun things to learn
fun things to express
fun things to share
fun things to do

Welcome to another day of your life
where you are loved
and there are fun things to do…”

Eventually, she got up, ready for her day.

Me – “You like my new song for you?”

Her – “Yeah.”

Who knows, maybe this simple little song will be in a kid’s show one day if I ever find my way back to that dream. Many other dreams come first. Regardless, it will be one to play around with and use with her.

Hearing you are loved and that life is a fun adventure in the context of some gentle singing has a special power for children, I think.
